An Iowa City Darwin Day talk by James Hansen, Earth Institute at Columbia University.

Risks of climate change to humanity and nature are reasonably well understood by much of the public and need only be briefly reviewed.  This talk describes how the implications of the climate change threat have been massively distorted by politicians on both the left and the right.  Resulting misinformation presented to the public has prevented even consideration of the revamping of our energy system that is needed to provide abundant affordable carbon-free energy.  The United States, because of its still capable system of higher education, has the potential to lead development of required energy innovations.  However, rapid policy changes are essential if the United States is to retain technological leadership and help avert climate disaster.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Deirdre Egan in advance at deirdre-egan@uiowa.edu or 319-430-8930.
